Hope the child, 2016

Hope the child, 2016
Seen here is Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén, who is seen here giving a malnourished child water. The child, whose name was not known, was left in a village to die by his parents after he was accused of being a witch. This took place in Nigeria. A year later, the child (who has been renamed as Hope) is seen with Lovén. He is happy, healthy and he is now going to school. Hope was rescued and is now in a orphanage with 35 other children. The orphanage is ran by Lovén herself. In 2009, 15,000 children were accused of witchcraft in Nigeria, with 1,000 being murdered. Its a growing problem in the country, which had strong traditionalist and superstitious values. Hope has been described as a happy, caring and loving child, who is happy for all the opportunities he has been given in his new life. Photographer: unknown Source: CBS New
