Please don't shoot me, 2012 This picture, which shows a four-year-old girl named Hudea, was taken by a photographer called Osman Sağırlı. Hudea has her arms in the air as she mistook the camera for a gun. The picture was taken at the Atmeh refugee camp in Syria. Hudea travelled 150 KM to the base with her mother and two siblings from their home in Hama. Hudea and her family left her home in response to the Syrian Civil war, which began in 2011. The war has seen several large factions or organisations, such as government, rebel and religious extremist groups, fight against each other in varying combinations. Other foreign countries have been involved in the conflict as well. Sağırlı had this to say about the picture: "I was using a telephoto lens, and she thought it was a weapon. I realised she was terrified after I took it, and looked at the picture, because she bit her lips and raised her hands. Normally kids run away, hide their faces or smile when they see a camera. You know there are displaced people in the camps. It makes more sense to see what they have suffered not through adults, but through children. It is the children who reflect the feelings with their innocence." Photographer: Osman Sağırlı Source: BBC
